A choice for better schools
New Hampshire parents and children should annually celebrate June 27. That's when the Legislature enacted SB 372, which helps the children of low- and middle-income families attend the schools of their choice rather than being trapped in failing and mediocre public schools.
Some 251 Republicans and one Democrat overrode Gov. John Lynch's veto. The other Democrat legislators joined the governor in trying to protect the teachers' unions and the educational establishment that provides Democrats so much campaign support, but which has been increasingly failing the children of New Hampshire and the United States.
SB 372 pressures public schools to improve or students will transfer to better schools. New Hampshire students will get better educations and be better prepared to survive in a competitive world.
